NC State is ranked 60th worldwide for Education and Research in the 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities by Subject Rankings, making it the top university in North Carolina for this research field. Looking only at universities in the United States, NC State is ranked 21st.

The U.S. News Best Global Universities by Subject Rankings, to be released on June 24, 2024, evaluate reputation and academic research performance, including publications, books, conferences, citations and international collaborations.
Between 2018 and 2022, the period used by U.S. News to develop its rankings, NC State faculty published or co-published 515 articles on education in peer-reviewed journals, including the most highly regarded publications. In 2023-2024 alone, faculty from the College of Education served as editors of approximately 68 peer-reviewed journals, published more than 105 journal articles, 35 book chapters, 10 books, and gave more than 520 research presentations that were cited more than 50 times in local and national media outlets, including NPR, The New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and Education Week.
This is the second time that the U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings have included the Teaching and Educational Research category, and the 10th time. For the 2024-2025 edition, U.S. News ranked 21,950 universities around the world in 51 disciplines. In the first Best Global Universities edition to include the Teaching and Educational Research category, released in October 2022, NC State ranked 68th in the world and first in North Carolina.
