Washington:
The White House on Monday (local time) lauded US-India ties, saying President Joe Biden views the US-India relationship as one of the most significant in the world, adding that the two countries are “working closely together” on key priorities.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a press briefing on Monday (local time) that the US is working with India on key priorities including QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue).
“The President views the U.S.-India relationship as one of the most critical relationships in the world, which is why we are working closely with India on our most important priorities, including Quad and U.S.-India cooperation on this critical and emerging technology,” Jean-Pierre said.
She further stressed that the US looks forward to expanding its “vitally important partnership” with India in the future.
“So we look forward to continuing to expand our extremely important partnership and how it benefits the American people. And we want to build a more prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific region and world. So that will continue to be our focus as we move forward,” she added.
The United States has diplomatic relations with India, Australia, and Japan through the QUAD, which is committed to supporting an inclusive, resilient, open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
Notably, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken participated in the Japan-Australia Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Tokyo on July 29, along with Slovenian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
The Leaders reaffirmed their determination, common principles and capabilities to maintain and strengthen the international order for the global benefit.
“We look forward to India hosting the next Quad summit later this year and the United States hosting the next Quad foreign ministers' meeting in 2025,” a joint statement after the meeting in Tokyo said.
A joint statement from the Quad foreign ministers' meeting said the countries in the region are collectively pursuing a forward-thinking and practical agenda to meet regional needs and support sustainable development, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
The statement said the two countries will contribute to a region in which all nations and peoples are free to choose how they cooperate and conduct trade based on partnership, equality and mutual respect.
