From January 1, extended families of Vatican employees can expect an additional 300 euros per month. This new benefit is the result of Pope Francis’ personal initiative. A nursery school will soon be established on the grounds of the Holy See.
Pope Francis has offered financial assistance to employees of the Vatican’s General Secretariat with three or more children. From January 1, 2025, each extended family will receive a monthly stipend of 300 euros (approximately 1,300 PLN).

This benefit is valid until the child turns 18, or 24 if they continue their education. In a statement, Fernando Bergès Arzaga Prefect and Secretary General Raffaella Petrini said this was a personal initiative of the Pope.

Additionally, the period of paid childcare leave has been changed from 3 days to 5 days. This is additional leave often used by fathers after the birth of their child.
In December 2024, it was announced that a nursery school in the Vatican would begin operations in the spring. This would be beneficial for children where at least one parent is employed in a Pontifical institution. The nursery is bilingual in Italian and English and is open 5 days a week.

In addition to the clergy, about 4.8 thousand people work in the Vatican. Laity. They are employed in the media, embassies, museums, gardens, shops, and pharmacies of church administrations around the world. In most cases, they receive a monthly salary of between 1,500 and 3,000 euros (approximately 6.4 thousand zlotys to approximately 12.8 thousand zlotys) and an additional 13th salary. Seniority bonuses and inflation adjustments are awarded every two years. There is no income tax.

Older employees with more experience receive a monthly salary of between 2,900 and 3,600 euros (about 12,400 PLN to 15,400 PLN). Vatican employees who are not clergymen retire at age 65. There are no unemployment benefits and strikes are prohibited.
