The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, answered the questions of Polish journalists about the granting of legal protection to Marcin Romanowski by his government. He said that this formula is a legal process in which he will not interfere, and at the same time he stated that “the relations between Poland and Hungary are not good, especially because of the brutal attack of the Polish Minister of Justice on the Hungarian government.”
On Thursday, the head of the office of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Gulyas, confirmed that the former Deputy Minister of Justice, Marcin Romanovsky, has received international protection in the form of political asylum in Hungary. The deputy of law and justice and the former deputy minister of justice is considered a suspect in the investigation of the Justice Fund.
– This is an ongoing legal process. What are you talking about? – Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán asked Polish journalists about Romanovsky's case and his asylum at the end of the meeting at the European Union summit in Brussels.

Orbán was referring to an interview Adam Bodnar gave to the Politico website Wednesday under the headline “Hungary under Orbán is on the way back, warns Polish minister.” “Bodnar said the example of Poland, whose previous right-wing leadership in 2023 had clashed with Brussels for years, showed that illiberal governments would not change their ways even under intense pressure from Brussels,” Politico wrote. – Under the current leadership, it may be difficult for Hungary to return to the good books of the European Union, – said Bodnar, quoted by the portal.
Romanovsky fled to Hungary
On Thursday, the Warsaw district court issued a European arrest warrant against Marcin Romanovsky. The National Prosecutor's Office accuses the PiS politician, who previously controlled the Justice Fund, of committing 11 crimes related to the way the fund was managed.
On the same day, Bartosz Lewandowski, Romanovsky's defense attorney, announced that the Hungarian government accepted the application of PiS MP Marcin Romanovsky and granted him international protection. As he said, Romanovsky requested asylum in connection with “politically motivated actions by the service and the National Prosecutor's Office.”
In response to Hungary's decision, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said it was an “unfriendly act towards the Republic of Poland” and that the government would announce “decisions” on Friday.
