Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha announced on Wednesday that Russian missiles violated the airspace of Moldova and Romania during a major attack on Ukraine.
“Another major Russian attack on Ukraine's energy system. This Christmas attack is President Putin's answer to those who talk about a phantom 'Christmas truce'. A Russian missile flies over the airspace of Moldova and Romania. It reminded us that Russia does not only threaten Ukraine” – Sibiha wrote on social media.
Russian missiles in Romanian territory? “No such situation was detected.”
Romania's Ministry of Defense responded to Ukraine's statement. “In connection with the information that appeared in the public domain regarding the Russian missiles that passed through the national airspace this morning, we provide the following clarification: Romania's air surveillance system is part of the integrated NATO system. “We are constantly monitoring the aviation situation in Romania. No such situation was detected in this region,” the ministry reported.

According to reports, Romanian military authorities were informed by Ukrainian authorities that a Russian missile was scheduled to violate airspace near the town of Darabani in northern Romania for about two minutes at around 7:30 a.m.
However, the Romanian Ministry assured that such interference was “not confirmed” based on “surveillance data from Romanian air surveillance systems” and additional data provided by NATO forces.
The organizations involved were assured that they would “continue to investigate this situation to clarify all circumstances.”

On Christmas Wednesday morning, the Russian Federation launched a major attack on Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that Russia used more than 70 missiles of various types in attacks that mainly targeted energy facilities.
Reactions to Moscow's actions include: Polish troops came to pick up the fighter jets in the morning. “Due to caution, military aircraft have begun operating in our airspace, especially for long-range air attacks of the Russian Federation that may target objects located in western Ukraine,” the RSZ operational command said at the time.

The mission's fighter pair has been deployed, and ground air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached peak readiness.
Three hours after the announcement, the Polish military announced the end of fighter operations. However, it was assured that the situation would be continuously monitored.
