Police officers were ambushed in Warsaw’s Wloc district. They arrested four people: two men and two women. All of them are suspected of car rental fraud. Investigators suspect they had no intention of returning them.
The ambush, planned in Italy, was the end of four weeks of operations. In the territory of one of the companies that offer rental cars, the police decided to arrest a man. They found that he was trying to commit fraud when he rented a Kia car for about PLN 80,000. Then the car had to be given to another person and resold to a buyer who was unaware of the fraud.
He left with someone else’s document
An interested policeman appeared at the company’s office. His partners were waiting in a Toyota car nearby.
– Operatives arrested a man while trying to complete procedures related to car rental. They checked the identity of this 35-year-old man and secured the documents he used. Paulina Onishko, spokeswoman of the Warsaw district police office, said that the identity card and driver’s license of another man were wanted in the police system.
The police also found the phone cards, payment card, phone and cash from the man, which are the evidence of the case. – When they checked the information of this 35-year-old man in the police system, it became clear that he was wanted by the Warsaw District Court to determine his whereabouts for legal purposes, – added the spokesperson.

He was wanted by the court
The investigators also determined that the Toyota car in which the man and his accomplices arrived at the scene belonged to a rental company. Suspecting that fraud may have occurred during the rental, they arrested two people: the 32-year-old driver, who, as it turned out, did not have a driver’s license, and was arrested by the Shweibodzin district court. two passengers, 34 and 46 years old. The Toyota was parked in the parking lot.
– The police took all those arrested to the headquarters of the VI district of Warsaw police, where they prepared the necessary procedural documents. It was sent to the investigators and then to the prosecutor’s office of the Ochota district of Warsaw, where the investigation began, said chief inspector Onysko. He noted that the detainees were interrogated at the prosecutor’s office. All four were charged there with attempted rental car fraud and using someone else’s identification.
– The 35-year-old man is also accused of fraud when he rented a Mazda car for PLN 130,000 from a rental company operating with a 34-year-old man, a 46-year-old man and another unknown person. Since this man has committed these crimes as a repeated crime, he will be punished up to 12 years in prison, the spokesman estimated.
All of them were arrested
These women were also accused of fraud while renting a Toyota car and using another person’s document. They and their younger accomplice face up to eight years in prison.
The court temporarily arrested all those detained for two months.
