The importance of this street increased significantly after the opening of the pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Vistula River. About two years later, Okrzej was to become Prague’s answer to the Royal Road. Pedestrians and cyclists benefit at the expense of motorists by staying in the same lane. There will be more vegetables.
– The bridge has a positive effect on the functionality of the area around Okrzei Praha Street. After the completion of the reconstruction, this street and its surroundings will completely change their character – it was announced by the mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, during the opening of the new Vistula crossing last spring. After the words, it was time for action. The reconstructed district should be Prague’s alternative to the Royal Route.

Wider bicycle paths and sidewalks
After the completion of the design works by Meritum Projekt, the City Roads Department announced a tender for the construction works. After awarding the contract, the selected contractor has 17 months to complete all the works.
The reconstruction of Okrzey Street should be a priority destination for pedestrians and cyclists. “Instead of asphalt, an aesthetic stone surface and rows of trees.” There is a single line of cars and buses – the traffic is one-way as before. On the north side of Okrzei two-way street. A bicycle path and wide pedestrian walkways on both sides and space for food gardens will be built,” the official statement said.
This means that the circle of drivers will become narrower. Today, from Wibrzeże Szczecinskie to Jagiellonska (this section will be upgraded), the street is two-lane, except for a short stretch between Panienska and Krowia, where there is one lane. The diagram presented by officials does not include parking spaces, although it is indicated that they are included for suppliers and people with disabilities.

It will be green again – 74 trees will be planted
The central parts of the intersections with Panienska, Krovi and Sierakovsky streets will be raised. Unfortunately, the connection between Okrzeia and the Szczecin coast will not change, as we wrote a few days ago a few months ago on tvnwarszawa.pl >>>.
Roads will be widened and more space will be provided for food gardens.
As the officials assured, one of the priorities of the investment is environmental protection. “In the framework of the reconstruction, 74 new trees will be planted, which will create a row. Also, new flower beds, bushes and small architecture are planned. The selected plants will be adapted to the conditions of the city,” they say.
Among others, small-fruited pears and red maple can be found in Okrzeya. Trees are planted in a frame, as in the name of the Square of Five Corners.
The renovation also includes the renovation of water supply, sewerage, electricity and lighting networks.

Architecture competition for the next piece
In the near future, the Office of Architecture and Spatial Planning will announce a competition, including: the area between Okrzei and Klopotovskiego Streets, Florianska Street and Veteranov Street 1863. “Its main goal will be to choose an architectural and urban planning concept that maximizes the quality and accessibility of space improve public transport and facilitate pedestrian and bicycle connections in the area,” said the road builders.
