Maya Klechevska-Kondrat won the competition of the director of the Povshechny Theater. Zygmunt Hubner. On Friday evening, the capital city government announced that he will start this position in September this year for five seasons.
The commission recommended Maja Kleczewska-Kondrat to the mayor of Warsaw for the position of director of the Powszechny Theater. Zygmunt Hubner. At the second meeting of the committee, which was held on January 24, an individual interview was held with all the candidates who met the official conditions of the competition. The discussions were related to legal, organizational and operational issues of the theater and, above all, operational programs and development of the institution.
The municipality announced that, according to the concept, the theater should represent a wide range of art from classical to avant-garde. He should speak in a public debate. It is designed to keep it popular and accessible to a wide audience. It will be a place open to young creators and their new young audience.

The advantages of the program include: development of cooperation with international institutions and art centers, including a new media environment, design of new and major performances to maintain a balance between operating costs and income from ticket sales, involvement of Warsaw residents in theater activities through a program of workshops, discussions, meetings, effective use of institutional resources to create space for presentation of interdisciplinary events, concerts and exhibitions.
Who is Maia Kleczewska-Kondrat?
Maja Kleczewska-Kondrat studied psychology at the University of Warsaw and directing at the Warsaw Theater Academy, where she currently works as a directing instructor. He graduated from the Academy of Theater Arts in Krakow and made his debut in 2001 at the Slovak Theater in Krakow with the play “Jordan” by A. Reynolds and M. Buffini. Associated with professional theaters in Krakow, Warsaw, Hamburg, Ljubljana, Poznań, Opole, Bydgoszcz, Walbrzych.
His performances at festivals include: Venice (Jelinek’s The Fury), Paris (Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream), London (Shakespeare’s Macbeth), Berlin (Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream) ), Tbilisi (“Partner of the Gods” based on the script by L. Visconti), Seoul (“Macbeth” by Shakespeare), Madrid (“Under Pressure” based on the script by J. Cassavetes).
He has been awarded many times, including the Gloria Artis bronze medal for service to culture, Politika’s passport and the Divine Comedy Grand Prix.
In 2017, she won the Venice Biennale’s Silver Lion Award for Theater Innovation.

The competition commission consisted of: Aldona Machnovska-Gora – representative of the capital. Warsaw – chairman of the committee, V. Artur Jozvik and Aneta Subda-Kamola – representatives of the capital Warsaw; Renata Derejczyk and Malgorzata Mostek-Lachinska – representatives of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage; Ewa Lesniak – Association of Polish Stage Artists ZASP – Association; Lukash Molski – Association of directors and directors of local government cultural institutions; Robert Dobak and Andrzej Klak are representatives of trade unions operating in Povshechny theater.
