The Tennessee Titans are hoping Will Revis can become their franchise quarterback in Year 2, and a strong showing in the final preseason game would be a great sign for the team.
Revis played well on two drives in Sunday's 30-27 win over the New Orleans Saints. The Titans scored twice and Revis completed 7 of 8 passes for 118 yards, including a 33-yard pass to wide receiver Calvin Ridley.
While preseason stats should be taken with a pinch of salt, the performance suggests the Titans' offseason changes could help Revis take a jump in 2024.
In January, the Titans hired former Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, who coached star quarterback Joe Burrow for four seasons in Cincinnati, and also signed free agent running back Tony Pollard and wide receivers Tyler Boyd and Ridley.
League insiders remain skeptical of the 25-year-old Levi. On Monday, Mike Sand of The Athletic released his annual QB tiers. The tiers are numbered 1 through 5, with Tier 1 being the highest and Tier 5 being the lowest. Levi fell into Tier 4.
“He throws some impressive passes,” the offensive coordinator told Sand, “and I always wonder if he can sense it and react quickly. Is his processing ability always a little slow? That's it. Just awareness. When he's on a roll, when he has a blitzer, I don't know if he knows it.”
Revis struggled with accuracy and decision-making during his rookie season, completing 58.4 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and four interceptions in nine games for a slightly below-average completion percentage of 84.2.
Still, Revis can take over Callahan's offense and improve his ability to read defenses, which should be a big improvement for a Titans offense that was tied for 28th in the league in points scored (17.9) last season.
