Borussia Monchengladbach have announced that both sides have agreed to terminate the contract of midfielder Christoph Kramer.
On leaving the club after 11 years, Kramer said:
“I've been coming to Borussia Park with a smile on my face for 10 years and have never hidden what this club, its fans and employees mean to me,” Cramer said. “My journey with Borussia has been incredibly unique. Unfortunately, it has now come to an end, but I'm also looking forward to what's to come.”
Following the announcement, a video was also released on Twitter.
The 33-year-old Kramer spent 11 years at Gladbach, making 288 appearances across two spells at the club. He played a bit part in the team under coach Gerardo Seoane but was not given the same fitting send-off that long-time teammates Patrick Hellmann and Toni Janczke were given at the end of last season.
During his time at Gladbach, Kramer was called up to Germany's 2014 World Cup squad and his second appearance at the tournament was in the final against Argentina, where he was sent off in the first half with a concussion from a collision and famously questioned the referee whether the match was really the final.
It is unclear whether Kramer will continue his footballing career, but the midfielder is already making a name for himself off the pitch, working as a pundit for German national broadcaster ZDF alongside Per Mertesacker.
