Traveling is one of the best ways to spend your free time while learning about different cultures, but too many crowds can ruin the experience.
A recent study looked at tourist density and population per square kilometre in cities around the world.
The study revealed that eight of the top 10 busiest tourist destinations in 2024 will be in Europe, with the remaining two in North America.
According to the Deluxe Holiday Homes survey, Paris topped the list with 351,429 visitors per square kilometre, a visitor to population ratio of 1,708 percent.
Paris is considered one of the most beautiful and culturally significant places in the world, but it seems to have left some disgruntled visitors unimpressed.
Tourists have been sharing their impressions of the French capital on TripAdvisor, with some complaining about hours-long queues and others warning of frequent pickpockets.
One person opined: “If you want to spend a lot of money waiting in line for hours, visiting all the places with thousands of people, come to Paris. People are rude and it's not safe to travel on the metro after 9pm.”
Another disgruntled visitor claimed: “The city is now notorious for pickpockets, stolen mobile phone sellers, badly behaved people, filthy places, street fights and overly crowded areas.”
“It's not worth spending your hard earned money just to visit the Eiffel Tower. This city will ruin your vacation mood.”
“We met an elderly couple in their 50s travelling through Europe who were devastated and saddened after their wallet and hotel bookings were stolen from their handbag.”
But like any great city, Paris has a lot to offer: beautiful scenery, fantastic culinary attractions, and some of the world's most important cultural landmarks.
As one reviewer emphasized: “Ah, the joys of Paris! A trip to Paris is like visiting a mausoleum, and the grandeur of its many historic monuments makes for an unforgettable souvenir.”
“Having visited the City of Lights nearly 10 times, it’s easy to think of it as a familiar place.
“The museums and the Eiffel Tower are what most tourists visit, but what makes the city so enjoyable to visit and explore are its casual places and wide bridges.”
