(CNN) John Alfred Tinniswood was born the year the Titanic sank and New Mexico and Arizona became U.S. states.
Currently, the world's oldest man, born on August 26, 1912, is celebrating his 112th birthday.
According to Guinness World Records (GWR), Ms Tinniswood is celebrating the anniversary with friends and family at her care home in the seaside town of Southport, west England.
Ahead of his birthday, Tinniswood told GWR that turning 112 “doesn't feel any different”. “I don't feel that old, I don't get excited about it. Maybe that's why I've reached this age. I just take it in stride, like anything else,” he added in a news release on Sunday.
A father of one, grandfather of four and great-grandfather of three, he was recognised by the GWR in April as the oldest living man.
He is also the world's oldest living male World War II veteran, according to GWR.
Tinniswood says his main advice for staying healthy is moderation.
He likes listening to the radio and says he still manages many everyday tasks without help, such as getting out of bed and managing his money.
“I don't think I have any special secrets. I was very active as a child, I walked a lot. But to me, it's no different (from other people), absolutely no different,” he said.
Commenting on what he thinks the world will be like in the next 112 years, Tinniswood said: “Oh my gosh, I wish countries would be more honest. Countries sometimes put on a bit of a show, including our own country.”
Tinniswoode is four years younger than the world's oldest woman and living person, 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka of Japan, who took on the title last week following the death of 117-year-old American-born Maria Branyas-Morrera.
Tinniswood is just four years away from tying the record held by Japan's Jiroemon Kimura, who lived from 1897 to 2013 at the age of 116.
The oldest person in history was Jeanne Calment of France, who lived for 122 years, from 1875 to 1997.
