• The 200-lap race on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025 will be the first Xfinity Series event held at the venue since 2010.
• The weekend will also feature Worldwide Technology Raceway's first-ever NASCAR Cup Series playoff race on Sunday, Sept. 7.
MADISON, Ill. (August 29, 2024) – Worldwide Technology Raceway will be a new addition to the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule beginning in 2025, with the Madison, Illinois-based 1.25-mile oval course hosting the national series event on Saturday, September 6th.
NASCAR's schedule announcement today marks the long-awaited return of the Xfinity Series to World Wide Technology Raceway for the first time in 14 years. The motorsports facility hosted 15 Xfinity Series races from 1997-2010, including two in the final season.
Returning in 2025 are 200-lap, 250-mile races from the second tier of NASCAR's three-level national series that will be broadcast live nationally on The CW, the Xfinity Series' new exclusive home through 2031.
“Since I purchased and reopened the track, one of the most common questions I've been asked has been, 'When will the Xfinity Series return?'” said Curtis Francois, owner and CEO of World Wide Technology Raceway. “I'm pleased to finally inform our loyal fans that we will be returning in 2025. We are extremely appreciative of NASCAR's intention to return to this facility with the Xfinity Series, which has been a staple and fan favorite.”
The addition of the Xfinity Series event comes the same day World Wide Technology Raceway made the historic announcement that a Cup Series event will be part of the NASCAR Playoffs’ 10-race format in 2025. The 240-lap Enjoy Illinois 300 will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7, concluding three days of NASCAR racing with the Xfinity Series and Confluence Music Festival.
Previous Xfinity Series races at World Wide Technology Raceway have been the proving grounds for many future NASCAR Hall of Fame drivers and Cup Series champions. Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards all have Xfinity Series victories to their name at WWTR. Other notable Hall of Fame drivers and Cup champions who have competed in the WWTR series include Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Bobby Labonte, Terry Labonte and Matt Kenseth.
“The list of Xfinity Series winners and participants at Worldwide Technology Raceway proves that this is truly one of those tracks where legends are made,” said Francois. “Our track is perfectly designed for intense racing action, and each event has always generated tremendous excitement and drama both on and off the track.”
Known then as the Busch Series and with St. Louis' iconic Anheuser-Busch as title sponsor, the Xfinity Series has not only produced some amazing highlights for the tracks and their fans, but also some of the greatest moments in NASCAR history. One of the legendary battles occurred in a race in July 2010, where Edwards and Keselowski battled it out in an epic green, white and checkered shootout to the finish. Approaching the checkered flag, the two cars made contact, with Edwards taking the win and Keselowski's disabled car causing a massive multi-car crash at the finish line. The battle ignited a rivalry between the two that continued until Edwards retired in 2017.
Veteran Xfinity Series driver Justin Allgaier is especially welcoming back to the St. Louis area. Allgaier was born in Spaulding, Ill., and grew up in nearby Riverton. Driving the No. 7 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet for JR Motorsports, Allgaier is in his 15th season and has earned 25 career wins and 10 pole positions, including a win at World Wide Technology Raceway in 2010.
“I'm excited to be returning to Worldwide Technology Raceway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series,” said Allgaier, a four-time NXS Driver of the Year. “Being able to race so close to home is very special not only for me, but for my family, friends and BRANDT Professional Agriculture. This place is so close to home for us, and I can't wait to go next year.”
