The WVU Community and Rural Health Institute and the West Virginia Community Health Education Center are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the WV AHEC Rural Health Scholars Program.
Two-thirds of the first group were WVU students, and we look forward to welcoming the next group of WVU health professionals.
The two-year program is available to 75 of West Virginia’s top health professions students interested in rural health care across the state.
The RCH Scholars will focus on interprofessional education from clinical, educational and community-based perspectives, emphasizing how each scholar can make a difference and transform the status quo of health care in their community.
As an academic, students will:
• Be a leader in your field and community
• Obtain supplemental training and education from rural health experts.
• Gain a keen understanding of how to most effectively deliver health services in rural and underserved areas.
• Learn how to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Provide meaningful patient care in the field and gain hands-on experience.
• Receive a participation award of $1,300 upon completion of the program.
Applicants must be interested in rural health, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have at least two years remaining in their degree program. Newly accepted scholars will begin the two-year program on September 1 and complete it in May 2026.
Students in certain areas of the health professions are welcome to apply.
If your area of expertise is not listed, please contact us as you may still be eligible to participate.
