In July, YouTube Music said it was testing AI-generated conversational radio, and the prompt-based feature is set to become more widely available.
Once rolled out to accounts (YouTube Premium subscribers in the US), users will see an animated “Experiment” card with the message “Request music any way you want.”
This launches a full-screen chat UI that asks “What do you feel like doing?” and lets you “Ask any question you like.” The keyboard automatically opens with a play-themed send button, and there's also voice input.
The carousel has 14 suggestions, including “Surprise me!”, “Alternative hip hop”, “80s-style indie”, “Introspective pop”, “Elegant female vocals”, “Classic folk”, “Catchy pop rock”, “Male indie vocals”, “Indie soul”, “Dreamy synth pop”, “Saddest song”, “Study session”, “Emotional song” and “Reggaeton”.
The YTM prompt is short, but the feature will accept longer inputs. It will take a few seconds for the radio to generate, and the background will flash while you wait. A glowing Gemini icon will appear.
It displays your existing playlists card, and YTM will convert your query into a short title and long description, with the first track autoplaying by default and play/pause, save to library and overflow menu options (Having trouble?, save to playlist and remove radio).
You can close this page at any time. Your saved radio will appear in Library > Playlists.
In quick tests, the results were pretty good, and last month Google said that AI Radio will be “rolled out to more YouTube Music users in the future.”
