A young man with a sharp instrument attacked students and teachers at school.
A 19-year-old man broke into an elementary school in Croatia's capital Zagreb and stabbed a teacher and several students. Five people were taken to the hospital, and one died at the scene. The assailant was once a student at this educational institution. The country's prime minister said he was “horrified” by the incident.
According to Croatian news agency Hina, the incident occurred just before 10 a.m. at an elementary school in Zagreb's Pleko district. A young man armed with a knife broke into the facility. Initially, media reported that he was 15 years old, but it was later revealed that he was 19 years old.

The attacker has already been arrested. According to an unofficial report on the website Večernji list, the 19-year-old is a former student of the institution. He allegedly entered random classrooms and began attacking students and teachers. Eight people, including the attacker, were injured. One of the students died at the scene, but she was 7 years old.

“At around 9:50 am on December 20th at an educational institution (…) a young man injured a teacher and several students with a sharp object. The assailant is under police surveillance. Injured persons Medical assistance was provided.” Statement from the Croatian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Five people, including the teacher, who was seriously injured, were taken to the hospital. The assailant was also taken to the facility. His condition is stable, authorities said in a statement. However, it is not revealed what exactly happened to him.
Prime Minister of Croatia: We express our regret and sympathy.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic opened a government meeting on Friday, saying he was “horrified” by the attack and that authorities were trying to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. “We would like to express our regret and sympathy to the families of the children who were injured at Precco Primary School,” he said.

Schools were evacuated and local authorities provided psychological care to those in need.
