KYIV: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday called on European countries to help shoot down drones and missiles over Ukraine after deadly Russian air strikes across the country.
Zelenskiy said Russian forces had attacked Ukraine on Monday with more than 100 missiles and about 100 drones, including in several western regions near or close to European countries. “If the air forces of our European neighbors coordinate with our F-16 fighter jets and air defense forces in various regions of Ukraine, we can do much more to protect lives,” Zelenskiy said in a social media post.
“If this kind of unity works in the Middle East, it can work in Europe as well. Life has the same value everywhere,” he added, apparently referring to US support for Israel in shooting down Iranian missiles.
He also renewed his call for Ukraine's allies to remove restrictions on the use of long-range weapons that Kiev wants to use to strike deeper into Russian territory.
“The United States, Britain, France and other partners have the power to help us thwart terrorism,” Zelenskiy added.
