– During the week, the shops here are mostly food. When we run out of bread or short-term food, it is brought here, and sometimes someone brings something of their own. During the holidays and New Year's Eve, this is the time to bring food. This does not mean that one has to be poor. You can come here and get it. There are also people here who have the philosophy of using as little food as possible, said Grzegorz Pietruchuk, head of Belany district. Food pantries in Warsaw's Bélan district are places where residents can distribute surplus food to prevent food waste and help people in need. WP reporter Jakub Bujnik visited Belani restaurants after Christmas. – I don't want the kitchen to be a disgraced place, what we should be ashamed of is that it is only for needy people. This place is for everyone. This is a place where neighbors can share their food. Let us know not to waste food, because we spend a lot of it, – admitted the director of the Vola Cultural Center Krzysztof Mikolaevsky. According to our interlocutors, kitchens are accessible to all residents, regardless of financial status. Their goal is to reduce food waste and promote the idea of sharing with others.
