According to the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Kim Jong Un has made 110 public appearances this year. This is 60 percent more than last year.
The intelligence service also confirmed reports by Yonhap that North Korea is abandoning the juche calendar, a system of counting years from the birth of the country's founder, Kim Il Sung, as a sign of intensifying efforts to strengthen Kim Jong Un's position as the nation's sole leader. .
