Robert Fico has threatened to cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine if Kiev fulfills its promises and stops the transit of Russian gas to the country after the new year. The Prime Minister of Slovakia, who recently spoke with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, also announced that Slovakia can host peace talks in the “conflict between Ukraine and Russia”.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said in a video posted online Friday afternoon that if Kiev cuts off Russian gas transit, “after January 1, we will review the situation and the possibility of taking reciprocal measures against Ukraine.”
“If this is unavoidable, we will stop the transmission of electricity, which Ukraine urgently needs in the event of a grid outage,” he added.
In the same statement, the prime minister stated that Slovakia is the right country to organize any peace talks regarding the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

FICO: Ukraine's position in the negotiations is getting worse
In his speech on the occasion of the upcoming New Year, Fico criticized the actions and statements of the President of Ukraine, who, as he declared, rejects the proposed ceasefire. According to him, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will bring disaster to the whole of Ukraine.
“Ukraine's position in the negotiations is getting worse day by day, and Ukraine will pay a heavy price for this Western adventure in the form of loss of territory and the presence of foreign troops,” concluded the Slovak Prime Minister, who recently spoke with Putin in the Kremlin.

At the same time, he announced that he will go on an official visit to Turkey in January, and in February he will meet with the Pope in the Vatican, where he will try to resolve the military conflict in Ukraine.
Ukraine, which has been repelling extensive Russian military aggression since February 2022, has announced that it will not renew the contract for the delivery of Russian gas through its territory to Europe.
