The Mayor of Krakow, Alexander Misalski, has announced a competition for the new director of the MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow. The former head of this institution, Maria Anna Potochka, was dismissed by the city mayor after a court verdict regarding mobbing in another institution she headed.
Information about the competition for the new director of MOCAK was published on Friday in the Krakow Information Bulletin and on the museum's website.

According to the instructions mentioned in the announcement, the candidate for this post should have a higher education, 5 years of experience in cultural institutions, non-governmental organizations or economic entities operating in the field of culture, and three years of work experience in management institutions. position
Other requirements include: knowledge of English and relevant regulations. As mentioned, the preferred candidates include: familiar with Polish and international art, and have strong interpersonal skills.
The office is accepting proposals until March 14, 2025.

Grzegorz Kuzma, the current deputy director of this institution, is the acting director of MOCAK until the new leadership is elected. He took over after the dismissal of Maria Anna Potoka, also known as Masza Potoka, who had been running the museum since its opening in 2011.

In early October, the mayor of Kraków started the process of ousting Potochka, calling it “disregard for the reputation of the museum and the city.” The decision, among other things, is in line with the court verdict from July of this year, which revealed the bribery in another institution, previously headed by Potochka – Bunkier Stuki. According to Miszalski, surveys conducted among MOCAK staff revealed problems in the relationship between the director and staff.
Maria Anna Potochka, in a statement published after the dismissal, stated that the president's decision did not correspond to the opinion of the trade union MOCAK and the investigation carried out, which, according to her, did not show that his actions were in the good name of the museum or that mobbing in it it happened. He also stated that he could not appeal the court's verdict due to procedural reasons.
The city's cultural institution – the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow – MOCAK – was founded in 2010 and opened in 2011. From the beginning, its director was Maria Anna Potochka.
In March of this year, the former mayor of the city, Jacek Majchrowski, reappointed Potochka for another seven years. From 2019 to March of this year. he also ran the Bunkier Sztuki gallery.
